Strong currents on our day made the second dive really tough. Crew did everything right, just bad luck with conditions.

GoDiving runs a tight operation. Boat departed on time, dive sites were chosen well for the day, and everyone left happy.

Questions

Everything You Need To Know.

Who can do the Open Water course?

Anyone age 10+, a basic swimmer, in reasonable health. No prior scuba experience needed – it’s designed for complete beginners.

You need to be comfortable in water. The standard prerequisite is being able to swim 200m non-stop (any stroke) and float or tread water for 10 minutes.

Send us a message if you are unsure.

You’ll complete a standard medical questionnaire before starting. Common conditions (asthma, blood pressure, diabetes, recent surgery) require a signed doctor’s approval in advance. Send us a message if you are unsure and we’ll advise on what’s needed.

Yes, age 10+. Ages 10-14 certify as Junior Open Water Divers (max 12m depth, with extra supervision restrictions).

Age 15+ gets full adult Open Water certification.

Three full days.

Day 1 is theory + underwater skills.

Day 2 is your first three open water dives in Komodo National Park.

Day 3 is your final three dives + quick exam + certification.

SSI Open Water Diver Certificate which is recognised worldwide, never expires, lets you dive to 18 metres with a buddy at any dive shop on the planet.

Progressively deeper. Training dives start around 5-6 meters, your final open water dive reaches 18 meters, which is the certification limit.

Yes, and we strongly recommend it. Your SSI e-learning is setup once you’re all booked in. Total time is 3-4 hours of videos + short quizzes.

Doing it at home or during travel days means you’ll have your nights and evenings free when you’re in Labuan Bajo.

Many first-timers feel anxious on their first descent which is completely normal.

Every skill is practiced in shallow water first, and you’re never more than 1 metres from your instructor during training.

We have specific techniques to help you breathe through the initial nerves. The team is experienced and will make sure you are comfortable and safe.

Yes. Your training dives happen in calm, protected bays with zero current AT sites like Siaba Besar and around Kanawa Island. We only move to current-exposed sites once your instructor confirms you’re ready and have learned the skills.

You’ll also learn how currents are the reason Komodo has such diverse and incredible marine life. Those currents brings in lots of nutrients and food for the big giants like Manta Rays!

Komodo diving is a year-round destination.

April to October is dry season with the clearest visibility and calmest seas.

November to March is wet season with fewer tourists, more nutrients in the water, and peak manta season. So althought it might rain on land, underwater is wet anyways.

Everything you need to be certified. E-learning, SSI certification card, all gear (mask, fins, wetsuit, BCD, regulator, tank, weights), 4 required + 2 bonus dives, Komodo National Park entrance fee (Rp 275k/day), lunch + snacks + drinks on both dive days, skills session, and 3 days of instruction with a certified dive instructor.

Flights to Labuan Bajo, accommodation, dinner, travel insurance, and optional extras (prescription mask, personal purchases). Everything else for the course itself is in the price.

It just seems that way.

Those lower prices don’t include the park fee (Rp 275k × 2 days = Rp 550k extra), usually cut down to 4 dives instead of 6, and often run bigger groups.

Our price is the final number you pay. We never understood why places would tell you one price and then add on the fees you HAVE to pay after. If you have to pay it, it should be in the final display price.

Sorry but you’re going to have get some exercise but we promise it’s not hard.

Komodo trips meet at the dive center each morning. It’s walking distance from most hotels in central Labuan Bajo and only 4 minutes from the main pier where departures are from.

You’ll get the meeting location map pin in your confirmation page after you book and another reminder the day before so that you don’t forget to set your alarm.

Swimwear, a towel, reef-safe sunscreen, a water bottle if you want (cups and refill water is available, and your phone. There is plenty of space on the boat to hide your stuff and keep it try. Your dive gear will all be supplied.

Contacts are fine but we recommend daily disposables in case of water entry. Prescription mask lenses are available if you let us know at least 2 weeks before your course or you can find them at dive supply shops nearby.

Solo divers join a group of up to 4 students. You’ll bond quickly over shared dives. Solo traveller is actually the most common profile on our courses.

Of course you can! We keep you in the same group up to the 4-student cap per instructor. Groups of 5+ will get two or more instructors together.

Free cancellation or date change up to 24 hours before your start date.

Cancellation is the course price minus the eLearning which is non-refundable. But the good news is that you can use the eLearning in the future when you decide to do the course and the dive centre you go with will discount the program.

Excellent choice. My hard work writing this paid off.

Message us on WhatsApp or use the online booking form.

We confirm availability, send your e-learning registration + medical form, and message you the day before to confirm meeting details.
